“Screenwriting is much more like poetry and music than writing a novel because it’s all about rhythm, all about visceral feelings, it’s all about the conducting of images.” — Carrie Schrader
Musician turned emerging screenwriter Maria crafts compelling narratives across film and TV, blending her diverse life experiences with a passion for storytelling to create transformative, emotionally resonant scripts.
Maria's path to storytelling is as unique as the tales she weaves. A career-long project manager with a lifelong passion for writing and music, she found her true calling in the world of screenwriting. Inspired by a transformative encounter with a writing coach, Maria shifted her creative focus from musical notes to narrative arcs, embarking on a journey that would redefine her artistic identity.
Her debut short film, THE THING I WANT TO SAY, proved to be more than just a first step—it was a leap, becoming a semifinalist at the New York City Shortfest Festival. This early undertaking fueled Maria's passion, propelling her into a world of ambitious storytelling.
Now, Maria's imagination is in overdrive, crafting compelling narratives across various formats and genres. Her current drama projects include YOGINI, a feature film that promises to explore the depths of grief and the resiliency necessary to heal; A NOTE IN TIME, an ambitious multi-episode series that weaves together past lives, karmic connections, and social progress, spanning from the suffragette movement of the late 1800s to the present day; and A COMPOSER'S REQUIEM, which weaves Greek mythology into the present as a musician battles personal insecurities and mystical forces to complete her magnum opus, revealing timeless truths about creativity and self-discovery. Demonstrating her versatility, Maria is also developing COMBAT NUN, a comedy that follows a nun who enters the Marines and finds herself unwittingly in a combat zone, blending humor with themes of faith, duty, and personal growth.
With her unique blend of project management skills and unbridled creativity, Maria doesn't just write stories—she architects experiences. Her scripts are more than words on a page; they're invitations to worlds unseen, emotions unfelt, and journeys untaken. In Maria's hands, storytelling becomes an art of transformation, captivating audiences and leaving them forever changed.
